Best Beaches in Vietnam: A Guide to the South (2027)

Southern Vietnam's beaches are best from November to April, when the sea is calm and the sky clear. This guide covers Phu Quoc, Con Dao, Mui Ne and Nha Trang, each with a different character.

Vietnam's coast runs over 3,000 km, and each region has its own beach season. The North is known for seascapes around Ha Long and Cat Ba. The Centre, around Da Nang and Hoi An, combines heritage and swimming, with the best swimming from February to July. The South has the most tropical beaches.

🏝️ Phu Quoc, the island for doing nothing

Vietnam's largest island, in the Gulf of Thailand, is the classic southern beach holiday. The dry season runs from November to April, with a calm sea and clear skies, and snorkelling around the An Thoi archipelago at the southern tip is best then. The best-known beaches are in the south: Sao Beach, with its pale sand, and Khem Beach, a quieter and more upscale cove. Long Beach, on the west coast, is the lively one, with restaurants and a night market. From May to October is the rainy season; some guides note that the south-eastern beaches (Sao, Khem) stay more sheltered than the west coast then.

🐢 Con Dao, the wild archipelago

Sixteen mostly uninhabited islands, largely within a national park, reached only by air or sea. It is not a place for nightlife; it is for quiet beaches like Dam Trau, snorkelling around Bay Canh and Tre Lon islands, and sea turtle nesting. Sources differ on the best season: several guides give March to September for calm seas and diving, while others point to the dry months of November to April for beach weather. The turtle nesting season runs roughly from April to October, with a peak in summer. Check conditions for your dates before booking boat trips.

🪁 Mui Ne, wind and dunes

A 12 km bay about four hours from Ho Chi Minh City, known as Vietnam's kitesurfing capital. The dry season runs from November to April, with the northeast wind strongest from November to March, which is peak kitesurfing season. Behind the beach, red and white sand dunes offer sunrise views and sand sledding. One honest note: the main beach has suffered from erosion, so it matters which stretch you choose.

🤿 Nha Trang, the most developed seafront

Technically in south-central Vietnam, and the coast's best-equipped resort town: a six-kilometre city beach, hotels, restaurants, and diving and island tours. Its calendar differs from the rest of the South: the dry season runs from January to August, and October and November are the months to avoid, with heavy rain and real typhoon risk. For a quieter beach, Bai Dai, a long open beach near the airport, is the usual alternative to the city strip.

Beach Phu Quoc Vietnam

Which one to choose?

  • Pure beach rest and snorkelling: Phu Quoc, from November to April.

  • Wild nature and turtles: Con Dao, accepting a longer journey for fewer people.

  • Wind sports and dunes: Mui Ne, from November to March.

  • Most facilities and island tours: Nha Trang, from January to August.

  • Culture and beach together: the Centre (Da Nang, Hoi An), from February to July.

The off-season trap. During the monsoon, the sea can get rough and boats to the islands can be cancelled. Check the season for each beach before booking. If you travel in November or December, the south is entering its dry season while the central coast is still in its rainy one.
